For many people at one point in time they realize that by paying some what more for dress shirts they can also be getting great quality. This can either be in terms of fabric, workmanship, or whether or not you get it tailor made.
We will be looking at the workmanship of dress shirts. There are a few subtitlies which the untrained eye might not see when looking at a dress shirt and It is something that should be paid attention to in order to get one of those great quality men’s dress shirts.
Next time around when you’re looking a dress shirt pick it up and take a closer look at how it was made. When looking through the shirt, look for the following ‘trademarks’ of quality:
-
-
- Single stitching along the seams on the side of the dress shirt
- Crisp collar with no wrinkles or bubbles on it
- Collar has solid yet not too hard interlining to ensure a continuously crisp looking shirt collar
- Shirt buttons should be sown on in a cross stitching pattern and there should be no loose threads from them
- The seam around the shoulder should have interlining in it to avoid future wrinkles – check if the seam is slightly thicker than the other seams
- On a striped shirt the lines at the shoulder seam and other meeting areas are relatively aligned
- Top quality dress shirts have split yokes (the part that covers the upper back)
- The dress shirt has removable collar stays
-
It is not a neccessity for the dress shirt to have all these traits, in many cases especially with custom made shirts some of these things can be options.
Don’t forget that after you’ve looked at these you’ll have to think of how well it really fits you, will slim fit dress shirts do the trick or do you need to get one tailor made.
